Henderson, GA is a census-designated place (CDP) in Chatham County, Georgia. It occupies a triangular area between Little Neck Road on the northeast, Interstate 95 on the northwest, and Georgia State Route 204 on the south. Downtown Savannah is 15 miles (24 km) to the northeast.

The small Georgia town of Henderson is a suburb of Savannah and has a population of about 2,300. Henderson Golf Course lies on the southern section of the CDP, with residential properties set around and between the links. On the other hand, commercial properties occupy the southwest corner, next to Interstate 95’s Exit 94.

Savannah’s Historic District

Located in the downtown of Savannah, the Historic District has many fascinating things to explore and activities to enjoy. These include historical statues, museums, homes constructed in the 18th Century, shops, and restaurants.

The famous attractions in the Historic District are the ghost tours, cobblestone streets, and the spectacular moss hanging from the trees.

Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum and Nature Center

Another popular tourist attraction near Henderson, GA is the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum and Nature Center. The Savannah-Ogeechee Barge Canal is on the National Register of Historic Places as a prominent remnant of the historic southern canals.

The waterway begins at the Savannah River tidal lock and traverses 16.5 miles to the Ogeechee River tidal lock. This canal was a significant infrastructure in the mid 19th century.  The construction of the 16.5-mile canal commenced in 1824 but wasn’t complete until December 1830.

Through artifacts and exhibits displayed at the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum, you will have a clear understanding of Savannah-Ogeechee Canal’s fascinating history. Some of the things you’ll find at this museum include the remains of Canal Lock 5 and Canal Lock 6.

You’ll also see a replication of the gate and lock model. The 184-acre Nature Center encompasses pine flat woods, river swamps, and walking trails and is also home to diverse migratory and resident bird species and other aquatic and terrestrial wildlife.

Additionally, the Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum and Nature Center houses Georgia's state tree, flower, wildflower, and reptile – the live oak, the Cherokee rose, the wild azalea, and the gopher tortoise, respectively.
